Owner Testimonials
Way back 27 years ago in 1998, Ted and I bought our house through Pawleys Island Realty and have been faithful to the company since then. Our house had not previously been rented, so PIR was instrumental in assisting us in getting rental ready. Over the years the company has become much like family to us but also maintaining a professional relationship helping us to keep current with updates to our home, maintenance, and marketing our home. They have been helpful with questions we have, and their service is always prompt. We have never wavered in our relationship with them and don’t foresee making any changes.
Betsy Altman and her fine staff have handled my two Pawleys Island beach house rentals for years, and I could not be happier with their service! They are always available to work with me, and satisfy any problems with their maintenance staff, and competent front office people who maintain a good relationship with the renters. They are Pawleys Island! Just yesterday when jogging, I saw 3 Pawleys Island maintenance trucks! This is why they handle by far the majority of homes on the Island.
Pawleys Island Realty has managed our house since 2005. During that time, PIR has been outstanding in renting the house, communicating and timely resolving issues, and ensuring the house remains extremely clean. PIR is exceptional in its owner communications, setting expectations and delivering a great management service with a smile! Thank you for the great service Betsy!
After renting the property for many years, my parents were able to purchase it in 1980. There was so much character to the floors and to the structure that my mother knew there must be some history to it. After she contacted the previous owner, Captain Owen Daley, she was informed that the house originally stood on Lady Street in Columbia. The house was deconstructed and reconstructed on Pawleys Island. My mother gave our house it's name.
After surviving Shermans March to the Sea, years later, our property took a devastating hit by Hurricane Hugo. It was a total loss; however, the shell of the house still remained, and my parents chose to repair the property. In 2016, Hurricane Matthew dealt a heart-breaking blow, where someone from the mainland reported a fire on the island during the storm. Again, our property was a total loss from the fire. My parents decided at that time to rebuild and so our family tradition continues.
Our family can agree that the Fourth of July holds favorite memories of the island. The family memory spans decades, as well. Family and friends would arrive to join the celebration. We would listen for the sirens letting us know the parade was about to begin. Then we would head to the beach to see the flyover and wave our flags in appreciation of our great nation and for the men and women who protect us.
Our favorite things to do while at Pawleys include reading on the beach, taking a walk in the sand, watch the sunrise and sunset and marvel at God's Creation. For generations, we have enjoyed all there is of Pawleys Island. Now even our children and their families love Pawleys Island.
Pawleys Island Realty has been a part of our family's enjoyment of our home away from home ever since my parents bought the Relic in 1980. The fact that so many of the staff have worked at PIR for so many years speaks volumes of the welcoming atmosphere in the office. Every member of the staff is professional and makes sure that everything is in working order so that our guests are comfortable, and
We discovered Pawleys Island 39 years ago while in graduate school at USC. As renters, 36 years ago we shared an un-airconditioned house with friends. Our daughter was 4 weeks old and theirs was 6 weeks old. We decided we needed air conditioning next year! Our New Years Day tradition for many years, was looking over the Pawleys Island Realty Vacation Rental magazine and choosing our next house. Finally, we found the perfect house and rented it for 24 summer vacations. We later, with the help of Pawleys Island Realty, found a house to buy very close to that long term rental. We named it after the town that Bill grew up in.
Our favorite memories over the years have been our daughter’s wedding at the Chapel, celebrating Grandma’s birthday, participating in the annual kayak races, watching a loggerhead turtle emerge from the surf, crawl up our beach and dig a nest.
When we are at the beach we enjoy fresh shrimp, Carolina rice, local grown vegetables and peach pie from Kudku. We also seeing old friends and family, surfing, walks on the beach, watching the wildlife that inhabits all around the island.
We feel working with Pawleys Island Realty is like working with old friends. The prompt maintenance crew who fixes everything or knows who does and gives great advice about the wildlife that shares our island. We also appreciate the excellent cleaning crew that get the house ready for the next guests, in record time.
We have been part of the Pawleys Island Realty vacation home family since 1984. We are third generation owners, and we have 5th generation grandkids, so the house was already named when we took it over. Our property is nestled at the top of the dunes; I feel like it seemed to be at the crest of a hilltop.
Our favorite memory would have to be our 4th of July celebrations with family and friends coming to the Island. Everyone brings their own drinks, hamburger meat, hotdogs, and fireworks. Our parents supplied buns, chips, sides, and desserts. Each family took turns in shooting their fireworks. It always seemed like a magical time to me when I was young.
When I was young, my favorite meal was fried flounder, shrimp and red rice. Now that we are doing all the work, it is boiled shrimp and cocktail sauce. We enjoy sitting on the beach and visiting with friends, shelling, watching grandchildren run around on the beach, listening to my brother play the fiddle and watching the sunset.
What does Pawleys Island mean to me? Pawleys Island means love and nurture to me. We love the island; we love our family, and we love our friends. Without nurturing this beautiful island, we would not be able to nurture our relationships with family and friends here at Pawleys. It's the gift that keeps on giving!
We appreciate Pawleys Island Realty. They take much of the stress off the homeowner by dealing directly with the tenants and their needs and communicating with vendors for repairs and maintenance. They are always pleasant to deal with and responsive to our needs. It has been a pleasure working with the staff at PIR over the years.
Our favorite memory at Pawleys is coming in from the beach at 2pm for a "full family sit down around the table" lunch that would include anything from fried shrimp to seafood gumbo to tomato aspic salad. At the time, we would have rather been on the beach, but it sure created some great memories.
Some of our favorite things to do while we are at Pawleys Island include swimming, fishing, and exploring the local shops and restaurants. We truly believe Franks is a must and as some may know, is located at the site of the former Marlow's grocery store, where we went to retrieve our phone messages back in simpler times. We will say though, one of our favorite meals at the beach is Ida Mae's fried shrimp! It is the best!
Pawleys Island means a lot to us. It is the place of our childhood where we spent many summers growing up, both literally and figuratively. We have been with Pawleys Island Realty for as long as we can remember. We appreciate their knowledge of the area and always doing a great job helping us provide a platform for our guests to make Pawleys memories of their own.
Pawleys has always been a special place for our family. Our predecessor, Lee Minton named the house, which is also known as: Le Nid du Canard. Pawleys Island offers us a unique and tranquil setting, natural foliage and beautiful sunrise and sunsets.
Some of our favorite things to do here is sit on the beach, the porch and the crow's nest. Though we do love playing "Pawley Ball" which is a made-up game requiring dugout holes in hard sand, heavy metal balls and mini flags. Only we know the rules and etiquette - home beach advantage. Our favorite meal would be low country boil or virtually anything seafood from Get Carried Away.
We have been with Pawleys Island Realty for over 20 years, and we very much enjoy working with them. Their reliability helps us have no worries with our home in their hands.
The Rogers family has worked with PIR for almost 60 years! Our parents started renting The Oceana in the 60s with the help of Mrs. Stacy, who was a rockstar at PIR back in the day. At some point, our parents began renting and became friends with the owners. Our dad asked the Reeves to contact him if they were ever interested in selling and our family became the new owners in 1976. We kept the name as we could not imagine changing it.
So many childhood memories, we couldn't even imagine picking just one. From walking to King's Arcada at night after dinner to listening to music coming from the Pawleys Pavilion late at night, Pawleys Island has brought us so much joy. Between building sandcastles, fishing, crabbing and riding the waves on our rafts, we never missed out on anything. Whether we are walking on the beach or just listening to the ocean, nothing beats Pawleys Island. Also, hands down our favorite meal is "peel and eat" boiled shrimp in beer over newspaper on our back porch.
Pawleys Island Realty has been there for us through hurricanes, emergencies, multiple rental seasons and more. They are family to us, and we appreciate all that they have done and continue to do for our property! We are also grateful for our guests, many of whom have come for years and love it like we do.
